Interning at CET

E-Media students miss a good bet if they overlook interning at our local public television station, CET. There are more opportunities than students might realize.
Senior Adrienne Bleh interned there fall quarter. She was given a major responsibility: organizing content for CET’s rather large website.
As the E-Media Division and Adrienne had hoped, it was one of the best experiences she had. Adrienne mentioned what appealed to her.
“I did not want to have a job in the television industry until right before I started my internship. I feel that I would not want to work at a local news station for personal reasons, but working at a public station, like CET, is very appealing to me. However, the new media aspect of it is the part that I love the most.”
What surprised Adrienne about CET was that public broadcasting had more regulations then she had expected and that more decisions are based on how CET can manage to get the funding than she had realized. That’s one thing that people tend to mostly associate with commercial TV stations.
Adrienne reflected on her experience.
“I learned a great deal of technical knowledge about building, developing, and maintaining a very large and content heavy website. But above all, I really enjoyed working with the people there.
“From the start I felt like I was appreciated and supported in the work that I did. The people there are all excited about their jobs, and that feeling is contagious. I enjoyed going there and was able to gain so many skills for the future, as well as work for my portfolio.”
Adrienne encourages other potential CET interns to look seriously at the CET website, as well as the TV production opportunities there.
“I would love to work there again if there was an opportunity for the same job as I did at my internship. But, I would also love to work there as part of the production team. CET is a wonderful workplace and there are some great people that work there, so I would take a job there any day.”
