Tonya O’Rourke ’93 is the 5:30 and noon anchor for Channel 9, WCPO-TV Cincinnati. She has a second full time job as the mother of four children.
Chris Balish ’93 is a graduate of Dartmouth but he was with us in the early ‘90s to develop his broadcast journalism skills. Chris is now based in Los Angeles and working with Sara Hillner (below) on several projects. You can find Chris’s web site and update yourself on all he’s been doing. He was interviewed in 2008 on the Today Show about his best-selling book, How to Live Well Without a Car. Chris has a new show on the American Movie Channel which will debut in the summer of 2009.
David Pescowitz ('93) is co-editor of BoingBoing.net, a technology and culture blog with over three million readers. The New Yorker magazine said it is read by geeks the world over. BoingBoing.net is a division of Happy Mutants LLC, a company co-founded by David. He is also research director at the Institute for the Future, a non-profit think-tank that helps clients focus on the future of the media. He lives in San Francisco with his wife, fashion designer Kelly Sparks, and two young children.
Carl Patterson (’95) is the man calling the shots for FSN’s game and pre-game telecasts of the Cleveland Cavaliers. As producer/director with FSN in Cleveland, Carl has worked many other sports programs including high school football, AFL football (Cleveland Gladiators), and MAC basketball. He was director for 90 Cleveland Indians baseball telecasts in 2005. Before joining FSN in 2005, Carl worked for WKYC-TV, Cleveland, producing the Browns pre-season and pre-game programming. Emily Wen (’96) loves life in Seattle where she is a director/technical director for KING 5, the NBC station. Most days she directs the morning news program and runs audio for the noon show. She’s been at KING for five years.
Shannon Kettler (’96) is a reporter for WCPO, Channel 9 in Cincinnati. She met her fiancé, a Cincinnati homicide detective, while on assignment. Prior to joining Channel 9, Shannon worked in Columbia, Missouri and Green Bay Wisconsin.
Matt Hueneman ('96) is a recording engineer at Sound Images in Cincinnati. During winter and spring quarters 2009, Matt taught audio class in the division while Professor Tom Haines was on academic leave.
Troy Davis (’96) is chief technology officer at editspot.com, a startup based in Cincinnati’s Over the Rhine that produces web-based content management systems “and other disruptive technologies”. Troy took classes at UC that introduced him to early Web technologies and he says those classes led to “a passion for software development that continues today”. Troy lives with his wife and son in Norwood.
Cary Harlow ('97) is Senior Learning Manager with Hewlett Packard Education Services in Cincinnati. "I do global project management aligning HP resources with customer requirements. I also write and create content for training. I'm active in ASTD and The Learning Consortium and pretty much know more technically about how computers operate than I ever wanted to. Cary and his wife Allison have two children. He recently started a Facebook Group for E-Media Alums. If you're on Facebook you'll be able to find it.
Donovan Castillo-Mohlman ’97 became vice president, program strategy and acquisitions, for StarTV in October 2007. He is based in Hong Kong. Earlier in his international career, Donovan worked in Eastern Europe for a Swedish owned broadcasting company. While in Estonia, a proof-reader changed his name to David so that’s what you’ll get if you “Google” him. Donovan added his wife’s surname to his when they married in 2006.

John Beattie (’99) spent four years in radio with Jacor which was absorbed by Clear Channel. John was laid off during a major cutback in 2003 but thanks to his initiative and contact with Ray Litkenhaus, a friend from E-Media, he became a video editor for the Outdoor Channel in Southern California. In 2006 John convinced his employer to create an audio department and he became the post production audio supervisor, the position he holds today.
Eric T. Styles, SJ (’01) is on his way to ordination as a Roman Catholic priest. After graduation Eric worked in Catholic ministry at DePaul University. In 2004 he entered the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), an international Catholic religious order. (Hence the "SJ" behind his name.) He completed a MA in Social Philosophy at Loyola University, Chicago in May of 2009. For the next three years he will teach theology and broadcasting at St. John's in Toledo. He will then return to theological studies and be ordained to the priesthood. Eric is an occasional speaker and writer on issues related to faith, media, the performing arts, and black studies. His photos and article, "The Many Faces of Faith: An African American Jesuit in Nigeria," were the cover story of the Winter 2007 issue of Company Magazine.

Brad Beaumont (’03) has been working at Soundelux Design Music Group in Hollywood, California since September 2004 and currently serves as a senior sound designer. “At DMG, we are contracted by video game developers to create unique sound effects for a game’s creatures, weapons, ambiances, et cetera, as well as complete audio post for a game’s cinematic cut-scenes. I have been very fortunate to have shared five MPSE (Motion Picture Sound Editors) Golden Reel nominations and one win for my editing/design on various game’s cinematics.” Brad’s recent credits include Gears of War 2 for Epic Games, Fable 2 for Lionhead Studios, Devil May Cry 4 for Capcom, and Bayonetta for Platinum Games.
Lou Mifsud (’03) is in Troy, New York where he runs Bedrock Motion Pictures. He does corporate work, live productions, and movies -- most recently War of the Worlds. Lou also produces trailers to interest investors in his original scripts.

Sara Hillner (’03) has been working non-stop as a freelance video editor since the first day she arrived in Los Angeles in 2005. This year Sara wrapped on primetime ABC’s The Mole and started work on a pilot for a company called Intuitive Entertainment . Sara and production partner Chris Balish (see above) are also working on several new TV show concepts. She has also worked on several reality and docu-reality programs, including “I Propose” on the Style network.
Sara Carpenter ('04) is development/production coordinator for VH1 & MTV music group in New York City. Sara develops, writes and researches new show concepts.
Gary Morgan (’04) "is surviving the recession by working longer hours, staying up to date on all new technologies pertaining to my business, and building strong relationships with my co-workers, managers, and clients" He lives in Venice Beach, California and works in Los Angeles. His current client roster consists of the Anaheim Angels, the Queen Mary, Farmers Insurance, and the Shriner’s Hospitals for Children. Gary also sells On Air, Online, & Onsite advertising as an Account Executive for the CBS Radio LA Cluster of Stations, KTWV-FM, KNX-AM, KFWB-AM, KCBS-FM, KROQ-FM, KLSX-FM, & KLSX-FM (CBS Radio has 122 stations nationwide).
Chelby Kosto (’05) is a reporter for WDTN-TV in Dayton. She is busy covering the presidential campaign in Ohio. Some of her stories have been on CNN and MSNBC, Chelby’s earlier jobs were in Steubenville, Ohio and Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Chris Gambetta (’05) is an account executive for United Parcel Service in the Kentucky District. Chris started working for UPS when he was in college. He is married to Annie and makes his home in Cincinnati.
Doug Hall (05) is sales promotion coordinator for the eight Clear Channel stations in Southern California. Doug went to L.A. three months after graduation with no job. But he soon got a promotion job at KISS-FM and worked his way up. One of his bosses is E-Media graduate Pat Thomasson.
Eric Hintz ('06) is director of photography for Mills James Productions, Procter and Gamble, based in Cincinnati. Erick worked for Bayerischer Rundfunk in Munich in 2005. He recently (spring 09) submitted his first music video for the Ohio Music Video Challenge for a local band, The host. The video can be viewed on YouTube.
Donald Hancock ('06) works for CETconnect, public television in Cincinnati, as coordinator for a major video project, Voices. Voices is capturing living portraits of individuals who have made an impact in Greater Cincinnati in education, business, arts, faith, etc. Read more about Don.
Jared Lynch ('06) is a digital production coordinator for As the World Turns, P&G Productions, New York City. "My job is to run camera on all of the location scenes that tape outside of the studio. Also, we shoot, edit and produce content for cbs.com and astheworldturns.net, including daily recaps, beind-the-scenes features and actor interviews. Read more about Jared.

Christy Crawford-Smith and Matt Smith (’07) are working in Los Angeles. Christy is a post production assistant for Pie Town, a reality TV company that produces programs for outlets including HGTV, Lifetime, and the Food Network. Matt is an assistant editor for a new kids show called Kamen Rider. It's similar to Power Rangers and will be airing in early 2009. Christy and Matt met as E-Media students and married in 2008.
Dalyia Baxter (’07) just completed her first year as a general assignment reporter. She went south for the job, to WABG-TV in Greeneville Mississippi. Dalyia is hoping to make a move back to the Midwest before too long.
Samantha Springer (‘07) moved to New York City after graduation, as a recipient of the P&G Production Internship. She then worked six months at FLUID, a production house, as a Client Services Representative. After moving back to Cincinnati , Samantha joined Focus/FGW as a traffic manager. Next, she worked for a small company called WELT branding. Due to the economy, she switched to the medical research field. She is now working for Medpace as a project coordinator. In her spare time she is the lead vocalist for local band Leroy Ellington & the E-Funk Band.
Ben Keller ('08) is in New York City working for a motion graphics and video production house. He won the E-Media Paramount Pictures internship which enabled him to spend the summer at Paramount in Los Angeles. Ben says "It was a great experience during which I learned a lot and made many great contacts."
Nicole Drumm ('08) is in Columbus, Ohio working in the communications department for the minority party (Republicans) in the Ohio House of Representatives. She got the position after being awarded the Legislative Service Commission Internship. "It's a pretty awesome job. We're a very small team, (a director and two interns) but that means we get lots of experience. We're averaging about three press releases a day for various members except for the days when there's an announcement for the entire caucus, and then it's much more chaotic."
Matt McCoy (’08) is a music director at Willow Creek Community Church in Chicago, one of the largest churches in the USA. He oversees a lot of the production elements every weekend, as well as write, record and perform music there full time. He is currently recording a new full-length album of all original songs. It should be finished by the fall. Matt also does some free-lance web design.
Drew DePenning (’08) is working for F+W Media as an Associate Editor for the Web for Popular Woodworking Magazine. He has been producing instructional DVDs (filming and editing and mastering) as well as managing digital content on their website, newsletters, and online bookstore. He has also written a woodworking article that was published in the April 2009 issue.
James Bedingfield (’08) is working at Clear Channel Radio as a traffic producer. One of his main duties is monitoring Artimis cameras on the highways. He also produces some of the on-air shows as a board operator, such as Simply Money on 55KRC-AM, some shows and sports on 1530 HOMER and some syndicated shows on 700 WLW. He hopes to become full-time soon.
