Computer Requirements for E-Media Students

“Once you go Mac, you never go back”, says senior Stephen Campbell. And the rest of E-Media seems to agree.
Since 2006, all incoming E-Media freshman and transfer students are required to purchase a MacBook Pro laptop for their journey though the major.
We know the Mac is more expensive than other laptops but we believe it's an important investment in your future.
Don’t worry, if you’ve been a PC person all your life, or just don’t know how to work you MacBook Pro. E-Media has a class that will walk you through your transition to your new Mac.
Digital Core is offered fall quarter and required for all incoming students. This class sets students up for more advanced applications later in their college career by offering students a hands-on experience with the Mac OS X. It’s where E-Media students learn the operating system and applications of the Mac Book Pro that are essential in the media industry.
“I don’t know where I’d be without my Mac Book Pro”, says junior Shawn Bosse.
Mac has become the industry standard in the media world. Students in E-Media take advantage of all the software applications like: iPhoto, iWeb, iMovie HD, iDVD and Garageband.
Senior Dave Keaton says, “When I came to E-Media, I was a PC fan, now I love Macs”.
The laptop costs about $2000 and includes iLife '09, which is one of the required software programs for Digital Core. Other programs include iWork '09, Quicktime Pro and a MobileMe account. Students will also need Microsoft Word.
E-Media students can get an educational discount at any Apple Store by showing their student ID. Check out the MacBook Pro at Apple’s website. Incoming students get their student ID at orientation in July.
