Semester Conversion & Curricular Reform

E-Media professors are actively taking part in a “once in a lifetime” opportunity to rebuild the curriculum.
The march is on to semester conversion. But it is going to be so much more exciting than simply changing course schedules from 10 weeks to 14.
It involves strategic planning, curricular reform, and maybe even collegiate restructuring.
Everyone at UC is involved in the process. In E-Media we are starting with a blank slate and asking ourselves these questions:
What should our program offer to E-Media majors?
Should we change or expand the mission of our program?
How can we break down the "silos" and work cooperatively with other CCM programs?
How can we enhance our program with deeper collaborations with programs across the university who share our programmatic interests? These are just some of the big questions we face. We view it as an unprecedented opportunity to have a significant impact on the future.
We’re also mindful that this year’s freshman class will have three years on the quarter system and their senior year on semesters. Among our tasks will be setting up a system of individualized advising for each student who’s time in E-Media will span the old curriculum and the new.
The university has set the fall of 2012 as the starting date for semesters.
The E-Media faculty will be seeking input from all interested parties as we engage in the strategic planning and curriculum development. We may set up a Facebook group to reach alumni who are interested in offering their advice.
Stay tuned.
